The Al Thani Collection loans two jewels to Cartier at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne

12 June 2026

Two jewels from The Al Thani Collection are currently on view at the exhibition Cartier which opened on 12 June at the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.

The exhibition traces the evolution of Cartier’s enduring legacy in art, design and craftsmanship. Spanning the Maison’s early years at the turn of the 20th century through to its most contemporary creations, the exhibition chronicles the story of Cartier’s rise, told through works commissioned, owned and worn by royalty and Hollywood stars alike.

Highlights on loan from The Al Thani Collection include 'The Tiger’s Eye Turban Ornament’, a magnificent jewel made using an exceptional 61.5 carat golden hue diamond which was acquired by Maharaja Digvijaysinhji of Nawanagar when he visited London in 1937 for the coronation of King George VI; and the Sun Tiara from 1907 which features a 32-carat, fancy yellow diamond at its centre.

‘Cartier’ is on view at the National Gallery of Victoria until 4 October 2026. It has been created by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (V&A), in partnership with NGV, and in collaboration with Cartier.
